The greater roadrunner is a since quite
a while ago legged feathered creature in the cuckoo family,
Cuculidae. The Latin name signifies "Californian earth-cuckoo".
Alongside the lesser roadrunner, it is one of two animal varieties in
the roadrunner variety Geococcyx. This roadrunner is otherwise called
the chaparral chicken, ground cuckoo, and snake executioner. The
roadrunner is around 52–62 cm long, has a 43–61 cm wingspan and
weighs 221–538 g. It remains around 25–30 cm tall and is the
biggest North American cuckoo. The grown-up has a rugged peak and
long, thick, dim bill. It has a long, dull tail, a dim head and back,
and is blue on the front of the neck and on the tummy. Roadrunners
have 4 toes on every zygodactyl foot; two face forward, and two face
retrogressive.
