I have two sons, both had birthdays this week. One turned 6 and the other turned 4. My sons are real BOYS...they love to get dirty, they love to play video games (Wii), and they love sports. I have been lucky enough to coach my oldest in track for the past two years, and this year my wife and I will get to coach BOTH our boys.....FFFFFUUUUUUNNNNNNNN.
Today, on the way back from a Star Wars birthday party for my oldest son, my sons asked me if we could go to Walmart so they could SPEND one of their gift cards. I spouted back my usual response...."we will see". My youngest then responded, "daddy, can we go after you run?"
This has not been the first time this week that he has said this, in fact, lately he has been saying that a lot. HE IS GETTING IT. I HAVE STARTED TO GET THROUGH TO HIM. HE IS SEEING RUNNING AS A PART OF LIFE. It is now NORMAL to expect dad to go run, and then for life to continue to happen after the run. Running is a habit for dad (and maybe for my sons in the future).
I now have two track runners.....albeit for only run 50m, 100m, and 4x50m runs....but you have to start somewhere....and their little legs will only let them run so fast and so far.

How sweet is that? My boys are two years apart...a great age difference!!
WTG Dad!
Cool. Give them another 3 or 4 years and they might be out running you.
It's so nice to see parents being good fitness role models for their kids. You are a great example for us parent wannabes!!!
