I have not been around much over the past two weeks. Work, at this time of year, presents lots of challenges, little time with the family, and no time for running. However, the tough part of the year is growing to a close, which means my running will move back up my list of priorities.
This week I have gotten to run two days already, and I have exceeded the mileage from last week and even the week before....with 2 stinking days of running.
Couple of cool things have happened this week. First, I have picked to races as goals....one is going to be a team relay in April...I have never done one, but wanted to do one because I miss the good old days of being on a team. I will begin doing the 12 week prep to get me in shape this run starting on Monday. I am cannot wait...I am really looking forward to this race.
The second big thing that happened this week is that I got in touch with many of my old classmates from high school. To most, this would not be a big deal (my wife included) because most people can go to reunions, go home to visit friends, and set foot inside old schools pretty regularly. Me on the other hand, I do not get to do so. I graduated from a DODDS school in Germany. As the son of a Military Man, I attend school in 11 schools in 12 years, graduated overseas, and have not seen or spoken to classmates in over 18 years......so imagine my surprise and joy to find a website specifically designed for graduates of my high school.....as school that does not even exist anymore......
I have been staying up late three nights in a row, after the boys and my wife have fallen asleep, and gotten caught up with some old teammates, classmates, and even people I only knew for a very short period of time. There are so many benefits of being a Military Brat: I got to travel the world and see things most kids never get to see...and there is a downside - You cannot go home again - there is no home.
Although the running has been limited, the week has been great.

I'm jealous that you're doing a relay. I've always wanted to do one of those!
I assume the relay is the Illinois marathon. Glad you are going to get back to running. It seems I barely find time for my 2 runs a week and now with coaching....
Good job on your runs.
That is very cool about DODDS. You need to import your blog into your facebook page. It's very cool.
Congrats on the running commitment!
Very cool about finding old friends. My step-daughter is the same as you - military kid, lots of places...home is where you make it, wherever that may be for the time.
Glad you decided to pick some races to do, good luck on your training and enjoy that relay race, it sounds like a lot of fun. I think it is amazing to be able to keep in touch with folks from high school especially when the school does not exist anymore.
