GREAT RUN ON A DAY I FELT RUN DOWN

I went out for a run this evening after spending the whole day on the road. One thing I did not realize when I took the job as a high school principal was how much time we spend traveling from one meeting to another. Today I spent 4 hours on the road.....this makes me very tired. Not to mention, I was up every hour on the hour last night as my 3 year old had a 10 minute nap on the way home from the shopping mall, which meant he was good to go until 4:00am.....OUCH.

So, one would think that today's run would be grueling. Nothing could be further from the truth. I set out to get in 5 and I ran 7. I took my trusty IPOD with me and listen to the latest podcast from STEVERUNNER....and he started talking about doing intervals and that got me wondering if I might feel better if I spiced things up a bit on today's run....so I did. I ran 6 of the 7 miles running a FARTLEK workout....finished my normal run about 4 minutes faster than average and I felt better than I have in a long run.

Probably my best run since my illness 2 1/2 weeks ago.
Next BIG run on the horizon is a race with my father-in-law....the JACKFROST 5K.

TREADMILL RUNNING....WHAT A BLAST

First off let me say that I have not forgotten that I owe a movie review for "Spirit of the Marathon". I watched it, got sick, had to leave town for work, and now I have forgotten all the pithy, intelligent, and moronic things I was going to say about the movie. I am going to watch it again over Thanksgiving Break (good thing about being a teacher....get breaks for holidays), take some notes, and post my critique afterwards.

Now, on to the topic at hand: treadmills. I truly believe that treadmills are a wonderful tool and I use them periodically. However, TREADMILLS SUCK! I traveled for business this week and had to run on a treadmill two times. The first run, 6 miles, was not all that bad because I did get to watch MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. My second run, 4 miles, was the following day. Both runs bored me to tears. I needed, and wanted, to run longer but I just could not bring myself to do it. Even with the game on, I just got fed up with running in place and getting nowhere.

Anyone else find it EASIER to run outside? I amazed at how much farther I can run outside, and how much less it hurts. I say again: I understand the benefits of treadmills, but TREADMILLS SUCK.

I AM BACK UP AND RUNNING - OH WHAT A FEELING!!!

Well, got to go on my first run in a week today. Boy did it feel good. Thought I may have gone back to running too soon. And I may have, time will tell. However, over the past week I have experienced unrelenting coughing, sore throat, constant flem, sore ribs, sore abs, and sore legs.
I actually went back to work yesterday, albeit for only 3 hours. Today I got to work all day, and I got a bit exhausted around 2:00pm. Got home and forced myself out the door. Boy did I feel so much better upon my return. I have not felt this good in over a week. Thank God for running.

Couple things I have found out about myself over the past week: 1. When I do not run I become almost unbearable, 2. When I do not run for a week my personal image of myself takes a hit, and 3. Being this sick, after NEVER having been sick for more than 2 days in a row in my life, really allowed me to reflect on how I treat my body.

There are positives to not being able to run: got in some reading, spent more time with the boys, and rested my body (which I would not have done on my own accord).

SURE AM GLAD I AM BACK.
Now I can get back to the task I had last week: Watch my new RUNNING movie and post a semi-critique of the movie.

BEEN OUT DUE TO PNEUMONIA

Sorry for no posts lately.
I have been dealing with a case of pneumonia over the past week or so.
Taken me out of work, out of life, and out of running. I hope the new meds
will bring me back quickly.

I am a father of two. Married to a wonderful lady, who is a teacher. I myself used to be a teacher, but I am currently employeed as a High School Principal I love my work, I love my family, and I enjoy running to take the edge off. I come from a long line of military men. In fact, it was my life-long dream to be a pilot in the Air Force...but due to circumstances beyond my control (lack of perfect eyesight), that dream was ot able to be realized. So, I stumbled into a new dream....attempting to become a world class educator. I am still a work in progress in the classroom, and on the roads.
