My Last Race of the Year

Took a mini-family trip this weekend to Springfield. We spent some time doing our family Christmas stuff, and meet up with some family friends to do our first Christmas get together. Over the course of the weekend we planned to run the Jack Frost 5K. When I say we, the last time we did the run it was me and my brother-in-law (Cory). Usually when I run it is me and my father-in-law. My father-in-law is an amazing man. He picked up running a few years ago, after I asked him to run a race with me. Since my wife and I got married he has run at least 12-15 races with me, and he regularly places in his age group (50-59).

This weekend when I say we I am talking about my brother-in-law, my father-in-law, and for the first time ever my wife. She did not train for this race, she is a natural athlete. She played volleyball at a D-I school and pretty much plays any and every sport very well. This time she went out and ran 3.1 miles in a race. She did very well. She placed 8th in her age group, she ran 28:00 minutes, and she DID NOT train at all. She did all of this as a Christmas Present to me. Funny, she went though a bunch of PAIN and agony as a present to me. I was very impressed. Sometimes I wonder if she really knows what it is like to run, and she must wonder why in the heck I love to run.....now she really wonders.

Race Report:
5K
Flat, Double Loop Course
Lots of turns, too many
Had to run part of race on sidewalks (SUCKS)
31 degrees, windy
OK after race goodies
No goody bag
Ran out of shirts (had to settle for a much too small shirt, and we were there EARLY)
Don' love the race, but love the run with my family
Ran in 22:31 (slow, but very tough breathing in my first real COLD run of the year)

RE: your twitter comments. You call your wife stinker? Wish I could get a way with that. :-)

That's a great time. Nice job to wifey, too.

So, does that mean she doesn't hve to buy you any more presents?

What? Sidewalks and no shirts? That's a crime!

I am a father of two. Married to a wonderful lady, who is a teacher. I myself used to be a teacher, but I am currently employeed as a High School Principal I love my work, I love my family, and I enjoy running to take the edge off. I come from a long line of military men. In fact, it was my life-long dream to be a pilot in the Air Force...but due to circumstances beyond my control (lack of perfect eyesight), that dream was ot able to be realized. So, I stumbled into a new dream....attempting to become a world class educator. I am still a work in progress in the classroom, and on the roads.
